There are many reasons you may need emergency dentistry in San Antonio. Dental emergencies come in many forms, from your child knocking out a tooth on the playground to a sudden toothache that will not go away. Even a cosmetic issue can be an emergency when you have an important presentation at work or a big event in a few days.
Whatever the issue, we want you to call us when you need care from an emergency dentist. We will always do our best to get you into our office for the treatment you need. This gives us a better opportunity to be here for you when you need us the most. And we have all the services to care for your dental emergency, including crowns, sedation dentistry, and root canal therapy in San Antonio, Texas.
Quality Dentistry Means Planning Ahead
We know you can’t plan for dental emergencies, but we do what we can to prepare for them. We set aside time during regular business hours to allow flexibility in our schedule. That way, if you need to come in for a dental emergency, we are more likely to be able to get you the care you need right away.
We are There for You When You Need Us
The last thing we want you to do when you need dental care is to sit in an emergency room. While an ER is designed to handle emergency medical issues, they are usually not equipped to handle urgent dental problems. You may spend hours waiting, then still need to find a dentist to resolve your problem.
If you are unsure about where you need to go in an emergency, it’s always best to err on the side of caution and call 911 or get to an urgent care facility. But if you’re certain you need emergency dental care, call us first.
What to Do in a Dental Emergency
We can advise you on how to care for your tooth until you can come in for dental care. We will always see you as soon as possible, often the same day, and can sometimes talk you through the best things to do while on the phone with us.
For example, if you have a broken tooth, it’s best to hold onto any broken pieces. If you get to us soon enough, we can usually cement the piece back in place and restore that tooth to full functionality.
And If your tooth is completely knocked out, did you know that you should first try putting it back in the place it came out? Of course, if it is dirty, you should first rinse it with warm water to clean it. When doing this, avoid touching the root portion of the tooth because doing so can damage exposed, delicate nerve tissues. And if you can’t get it back into the tooth socket (facing the right way, of course), you can hold it in a cup of milk until you get to us. If we can work on it within about an hour of it being knocked out, we can often save the tooth.
If you’re suffering from pain or swelling, some additional tips can help. Run some cold water over a towel to soak it and hold it against your cheek for pain and swelling. The cold compress can provide quick relief. Also, try ibuprofen for pain relief or anti-inflammatory medication. As always, check with your doctor before taking medication.
