Medical care is constantly improving with new technology, including dental care. At Nautical Dental, we invest in the latest technology to give our patients access to the most effective and efficient dental treatments available. Your smile is an essential part of your appearance and overall health; advanced technology can give you a beautiful, healthy smile that takes less time in our office.
CONE BEAM 3D IMAGING
One of the many advanced dental technologies we use at Nautical Dental is 3D cone beam computed tomography, more commonly known as CBCT imaging that allows Dr. Cornelius to evaluate the underlying bone structure, as well as the nerve pathways and surrounding soft tissues. During a CBCT scan, the imaging machine rotates entirely around the patient’s head. In less than a minute, about 150-200 images are captured from a variety of angles and compiled into a single 3D image. It gives us access to more detailed information for treating our patients. This imaging technology gives us 3D images of the mouth and jaw. This is used for more detailed images for our implant dentistry, TMJ/TMD diagnosis, orthodontics diagnosis, evaluating impacted wisdom teeth, and many other complicated dental issues.
Digital Impressions
Another advanced technology we use at Nautical Dental is a digital scan that creates a map of your teeth. This allows Dr. Cornelius to view your teeth on a computer screen.
Digital impressions are captured by slowly moving a small wand around the inside of your mouth. As the wand moves, it takes measurements and captures countless small images that are immediately stitched together by the digital impression machine’s software to form a precise map of your mouth.
Benefits of Digital Impressions
Digital impressions provide many benefits for you including the following:
Comfort: 3-D scanning is much more comfortable for our patients than traditional impressions. For our patients that have sensitive gag reflexes from having goop in their mouth or teeth that are sensitive to cold material will be able to relax since the impression is all-digital.
Quality: digital impressions limit the margin for error and distortion when compared to traditional impressions. This means that your nightguard, crown, bridge, or other appliance will fit better in your mouth since the information gathered was all-digital and very detailed. These images are also much easier to store for future use if needed. When combined with CBCT imaging, it allows dental implants to be placed in a more ideal position than when using regular X-rays alone.
Cost-effective: there is no increase in cost for a digital impression; traditional impressions and 3-D scanning costs the same for the patient.
